Geethu Mohandas has won the prestigious Golden Lamp Tree Award for the best short film for her directorial debut, the 22 minutes Kelkkunundo at the IFFI in Goa.
The critically acclaimed film which has been getting rave reviews was selected from among 206 films from 26 countries, and gets an award and Rs 5 lakhs. Geethu who was present at the venue was elated and said: “This is an award for everybody including the crew of the film who assisted me in making the film”.
The film according to the jury Chairman Shaji N Karun was selected for “the directorial integrity and for the effectiveness in handling the theme with needed intensity in visual imagery. The award is for a well-crafted and poignantly acted film about the trauma of progress seen through the innocence and blindness of a child”.
On a personal level Geethu has got the best wedding gift (her marriage took place on Nov 14) as Kelkkunundo is produced and cinematographed by her husband Rajeev Ravi. The film has also been selected for the Rotterdam film Festival and Mumbai International film Festival
